My Money

How to use My Money

Three habits. That's the whole app.

There is no budget to set up, no categories to design, and nothing to maintain. Record what you spend, answer a question once per shop, and look when you feel like looking. Connect a bank and the recording happens on its own.

1

Record it, in about six seconds

Tap the green + and type it however it comes out of your head — “Coffee 6.50”, “Lunch 18 yesterday”, “Groceries $82”. The amount, the date and the shop are worked out for you. No forms, no dropdowns.

Or let the receipt do the typing.

Got a receipt in your hand instead? Photograph it and the total, the shop and the date are read off the paper.

2

Answer once, and never again

The first time you record a shop, you're asked what kind of spending it is. Tap once. From then on, every purchase from that shop files itself — and the answer is applied backwards to everything you've already recorded from them.

Change your mind later? Settings → What I've learned. Editing a rule re-files every past purchase too.

Look when you want to

Home shows where you stand and the one thing, if anything, that needs you. Insights puts this month next to the last six — money in, spent, kept, and where it actually went. Not a score, not a verdict, just whether this month is like your other months.

Or connect it once, and let the bank type

Full-time manual is enough. But if you'd rather not, Accounts → Connect your bank. One-time setup: SimpleFIN holds your bank login, you bring back a token, we take it from there. Balances become true on their own and recent transactions fill in automatically.

How do I…

The questions people actually ask.

How do I add something I just spent?
Tap the green + and type it — “Coffee 6.50”. That's the whole flow. It also understands “yesterday”, so “Lunch 18 yesterday” lands on the right day.
I typed the wrong amount. How do I fix it?
Activity → tap the item → change the amount → Save changes. Your balance corrects itself by exactly the difference. Nothing is ever silently rounded.
I added the same thing twice — now what?
You'll usually be warned before it happens: adding the same amount at the same shop twice in a row asks “Added it twice by mistake?” with Undo right there. If one slips through, Activity → tap it → Delete, and your balance goes back to what it was.
How do I stop it asking about a shop I use all the time?
Answer it once. The moment you tap a category on the confirmation screen, that shop is learned — every future purchase files itself, and every past one is updated too. You should be asked about any given shop exactly once, ever.
I put something in the wrong category. Can I fix it everywhere at once?
Yes — Settings → What I've learnedlists every shop the app has learned. Change the category there and it re-files every past purchase from that shop. “Forget” removes the rule entirely and it'll ask you fresh next time.
Do I have to set a budget?
No — and there isn't one to set. Budgets are the thing most people abandon in week three. This shows you what actually happened and how it compares to your own previous months, and leaves the judgement to you.
Can I bring in my bank statement instead of typing months of history?
Settings → Import a statement.Export a CSV from your bank and drop it in — column order doesn't matter. You'll see exactly which column was read as the date, the description and the amount, plus the first few rows as understood, before anything is saved. Importing the same file twice is safe: anything already recorded is skipped rather than duplicated.
Where do I see what I spent this month?
Insights for the shape of it — the total, what changed since last month, and where it went. Activity for the detail, where you can switch the period, group by category, or search for one shop.
What happens to a receipt I photograph?
The total, the shop and the date are read off it and turned into an entry. If anything is unreadable you're offered the chance to type it instead — a number is never guessed at. The image is kept so you can look at it again later.
Who can see my data?
Only you. Not the person who invited you, not anyone else with an account. There is no shared view anywhere in the app, and nothing is sold or passed to anyone.
Can I get my data back out?
Any time, without asking. Settings → Your datagives you a CSV that opens in Excel, or the whole lot as JSON — accounts, transactions and learned rules. Money data you can't get out isn't really yours.
Does it connect to my bank automatically?
Yes, if you want it to. Accounts → Connect your bank and follow the steps — SimpleFIN does the handshake with your bank, so your password never reaches this app. You bring back a one-time token, paste it, and from then on balances and recent transactions arrive automatically. Recorded and connected live side by side, and the app always says which is which.
What is “the journey” on Insights?
The run of your last six months, not just one — money in against money spent, how much you kept, and how each category has been moving. It answers “is this actually my pattern?” instead of judging any single month.
What if I forget to record something?
Nothing breaks and nothing nags you. Add it whenever you remember — type “yesterday” or set the date by hand — or correct a balance directly from Accounts and carry on. This is meant to survive being ignored for a week.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in the browser. On an iPhone, tap Share → Add to Home Screen and it opens like an app, full screen, with its own icon.

That's genuinely it

Record things as they happen. Answer once per shop. Everything else is the app's job, not yours.
